The Ordinary Extraordinary

from Chapter 14 - Three in the World: Known Arrangements

Astrid [Buffett] insists she was happy with what was called the trio’s “rhythm” and says that she’s lived in the best of all worlds.  Warren [Buffett] has said, “I really like my life.  I’ve arranged my life so that I can do what I want.”  The women were friends and associates who dined together when in the same city.  Bill Gates once recalled a weekend visit to Buffett in which Saturday’s lunch was attended by Susan and Sunday’s brunch by Astrid.  A Buffett business associate once summed up the threesome’s rapport by explaining it as a relationship that never had a lie in it, and that in some ways [they] created something very traditional with all the old values.
